I used to think I’d “start taking care of my health” once work slowed down. But work never really slows down, right? There’s always another deadline, another call, another reason to actually skip walking or grab something quick and unhealthy. 

Most people struggle with this part- not knowing where to fit health into an already packed day. What I didn’t actually realise back then is that ignoring your health and fitness doesn’t just definitely affects your body.

1. More Energy = much better work days 

There was a time when I felt tired even before the day properly started. Coffee basically helped for a bit, but by afternoon, I was just dragging myself through tasks in a kind of big way. 

This is what actually helped me- I, for the most part, started with something simple: a 20-30 minute walk in the morning. Nothing intense, or so they thought. 

Within a couple of weeks. I noticed I wasn’t crashing by 2 PM anymore. I could focus longer, particularly finish work faster, and honestly complain less about being tired, or so they for the most part thought. 

Good health and fitness don’t generally give you superpowers, but it does essentially give you pretty steady energy, and that matters more than we think in a work setting. 

2. A Clear Mind means Better Decisions 

You don’t need to overcomplicate this, as every basic movement from walking, stretching, and light workouts definitely helps clear your head. And when a fairly your mind is essentially less cluttered, you for the most part make better decisions. 

I’ve literally had days where I was stuck on a simple problem for hours. Then I generally went out for a short walk, came back, and solved it in 10 minutes.

When I wasn’t paying attention to my healthy lifestyle, even small problems for the most part, felt overwhelming. Now, things mostly feel more manageable.

6. It’s Easier to Mostly Stay Consistent than to Restart 

Here’s something no one really talks about: restarting specifically is harder than continuing. 

Every time your mostly stop taking care of your health, getting back into it feels like a huge task. Even now, I don’t follow any strict plan. I just try to:

  • Work out a few times a week 
  • Less junk food
